I really love Capcut. I switched to editing exclusively in Capcut about two years ago. It's a light, intuitive program which has enough features for most content creators who aren't trying to create some insane movie level visual effects.
It comes with a great selection of stock background images and videos, green screen videos, text animations, background music, sound effects, animated stickers, a huge variety of transitions, filters and video effects.
You can colour grade, you can green screen, and one of my favourite features is the ability to generate automatic captions for your videos.
And the best part of Capcut by far is that it is a free program. Or is it? Not anymore. If you want to access special Pro features, you'll have to join a subscription that will cost you $10.99 a month currently.
And the thing is, they keep updating Capcut, but every update I noticed that they weren't actually adding features, but taking features away and locking old features behind the Pro payable.
And the last straw for me was when they tried to make the automatic subtitling feature Pro. But you might notice that here it is not locked for me currently. So upon them making the subtitling feature pro, I looked around to see if I could find some sort of cracked version of Capcut, but I had no luck.
And the best option for me has been to download an old version of Capcut which, A: has all the necessary features I use, in other words, it's not such an old version that it's lacking in features, and B: those features are not hidden behind a paywall.
So the first link I'm going to share in the below is where I downloaded the version of Capcut that I'm currently using now. But that was a few months ago from writing this article and now I suspiciously can't seem to access this website anymore.
So I'm wondering if it's because a few months ago a lot of people were sharing around this specific website where you could download old Capcut versions. Maybe Capcut wasn't too happy about it and caught on and did something to block the website. It's not illegal, it's just an older version of their free to download software. But I can't seem to access it anymore.

So the steps are to, number one, uninstall Capcut. Now, I just want to make a point, which is that if you've started to edit a project in the most recent version of capcut and then you want to revert back to an old version of capcut, it is not going to work. You can't revert back to an old version and still use that project.
So I'd recommend just finishing off whatever it is that you're currently working on before you uninstall Capcut. And then once you've uninstalled capcut, download and install an older version of Capcut.
And now the key trick is to stop yourself from pressing shiny buttons. So basically, every time you open capcut, you'll get this big pop up box saying, look, we have this new update that has all of these great features, which is us taking away old features, and there'll be a big blue button prompting you to update. Never click update. Always remember to close this box and just continue using the version of capcut that you currently have.
Now, what version of capcut should you get? Well, I'm currently using version 3.9, Which I've been very happy with. I use version 3.9.0 because auto caption is still free, but it's still a more up to date recent version.
If there is a particular effect that was free in an older version that you really want, you can go older, but be aware that newer features like character text to speech and auto captions might not be there yet.
